 Space Exploration

In a short amount of time, humans have advanced tremendously in the space age. Humans are exploring other worlds, curiously looking for other signs of life, resources, and experiences. They have created many different technologies and devices to see into space and to explore the unknown. For example, the James Webb Space Telescope is set for launch in 2018, which may help astronomers look for life on a handful of far away worlds by searching for, among other things, evidence of oxygen. Past research from the Virtual Planetary Laboratory has found that some worlds can create oxygen by nonliving means. These findings are done by transit spectroscopy, or by studying the spectral features of light, which is visible through a planet’s atmosphere when it transits or passes in front of its host star.
